Xbox Live update October 11th

Yesterday there was an update to Xbox Live. So, what were all the new goodies that warranted a download, you say.

Pretty much nothing. It turned out to be a really boring general system maintenance update with no new features added. I guess “general system maintenance” is the new word for bug fix.

Samsung delays launch because of Steve Jobs’ death

Samsung was about to launch a new Android phone tomorrow but have decided to postpone the launch because of the death of Steve Jobs.

“We decided that it’s not the time to launch a new product on the market now.” a spokesperson for the company said.

In other news it seems that the more or less ridiculed 4S turned out to be quite a sell-out with it being sold out duirng the first day of release. The estimated delivery time is now at 21 to 28 days.

AT&T and Verizon sold out all units on the first day and AT&T reported that they had 200,000 pre-orders of the 4S during the first 12 hours. Both companies stating that this was the most successful iPhone launch to date.

The HTC Flyer Tablet mega price-cut that wasn’t

HTC FlyerIt’s been Apple this, Apple that lately so it’s time to put the focus on Android for a while.

The HTC Flyer Tablet price tag was slashed from $499 to $299, but after messing up a bit Best Buy managed to slash that even further and advertised the tablet for $99.99. Now that’s a pretty sweet deal.

Unfortunately for those who were quick enough to order their HTC Flyer for this price when Best Buy realized their mistake all those orders from the website were cancelled.

“The HTC Flyer (SKU 2390524) was incorrectly priced at $99.99 on Bestbuy.com and in some of our stores,” Best Buy wrote. “This error has been corrected on Bestbuy.com and our stores have posted a correction notice at their locations. Bestbuy.com orders that were placed at the $99.99 price will be canceled. Best Buy will not be price matching the $99.99 price on the Flyer, nor will the HTC Flyer be available for $99.99.”

But since the error was out in some stores as well perhaps a few lucky customers managed to bring one home before the error was fixed?

Steve Jobs dies

Everyone who was going to make a Google search probably saw that below the search box they had added “Steve Jobs, 1955-2011″ with a link to Apple’s front page epitaph about one of their founding members.

Steve Jobs was diagnosed with pancreas cancer in 2004 and lost his battle against the disease yesterday.

Did the new iPod Touch steal the show?

With the disappointment that was the iPhone 4S there were some other news from the big Apple. The iPod Nano got a new release and there’s a new iPod Touch as well.

The new iPod Touch now lets the users send unlimited free text messages using “iMessage” from the iPod Touch to an iPhone, iPad or other iPhone Touch (all iOS 5 devices) over a Wi-Fi connection.

The camera can shoot HD videos and has basic video editing built in.

But really, it’s a bit hard to get that excited about an iPhone without the phone, isn’t it?

Bobbot likes the Nano more. And the old school iPod Classic 160 GB of pure music power.

The iPhone 5 was the 4S

iPhone 4SApple fans all over the globe watched in awe as their God spoke yesterday. Websites and live blogs were crashing left and right. The fans were expecting a revolutionary iPhone 5, but got the not so revolutionary iPhone 4S instead.

The 4S comes with a dual core A5 processor instead of the previous model’s A4, and the ‘S’ stands for speed. The A5 and the graphics chip are supposedly seven times quicker than the old iPhone and it is speculated that the 4S now has 1 GB RAM, double the size of the 4.

The size is the same from the iPhone 4, but is now 3 grams heavier. Things have happened with the camera. It is now 8 megapixels and features a five-element lens and face recognition. The video recording now supports 1080p at 30 frames per second.

There are good news and bad news about the battery time. You can talk one hour more over 3G (8 hours) but the standby time is reduced from up to 300 hours to just 200 hours.

It’s all a bit underwhelming, isn’t it?

Were you expecting more or less?

Drunk on Facebook? You’re screwed!

Drunk on Facebook?! WTF!A study made by the University of Wisonsin-Madison and the University of Washington makes it pretty clear that college students who pose drunk on Facebook pictures are at greater risk for alcohol dependency or alcohol abuse.

“You might have someone who, if they write in a Facebook posting about being drunk… that might be a red flag,”

Bobbot now suggests that if one of your Facebook friends mentions heavy drinking, you better set him or her straight! Right away! Tomorrow could be too late.

And, don’t drink and drive, kids!

Bobbot <3 DoFollow

The Bobbot blog loves comments and think comments should be rewarded with a nice link. Therefor comments on this blog will get the link love they deserve with the dreaded nofollow removed. This of course doesn’t mean that I’ll accept spammy blog comments. No way.

Here are the rules of commenting and getting you comment and link approved:

  1. Take the time to actually comment on the blog post. It’s not that difficult to actually write something other than a generic spammy “Thanks for sharing” or “You’re in my bookmarks”. At least make a once-sentenced effort.
  2. Use your name, not your spammy keywords. Unless your name actually is “best insurance rates” (and you better supply a scan of your ID) I won’t add that comment.
  3. Your website isn’t gambling, pr0n, hate or just generally plain crap.

That’s it! Nothing to complicated, right? DoFollow FTW!

id Software is back with RAGE

RAGE id SoftwareFor those of us old enough to remember a life without the World Wide Web id Software is probably remembered quite fondly for games like Wolfenstein 3D and Doom. id Software has of course not been lazy since then and have been producing games of mixed quality since then.

Today they are back again with their latest release: RAGE, a game they have been working on for the past four years. So, what is it?

RAGE is set in a post-apocalyptic world in what remains after an asteroid impact. Although we are talking about a FPS (it wouldnt really be an id game without it) there’s desert driving ala Mad Max included as well. The game is the first game developed using the new Tech 5 graphics engine.

How a big blockbuster videogame gets received on launch is always interesting and the RAGE reviews have been mixed, but mostly positive. Here are a few quotes from some of the major players when it comes to videogames’ critics.

“I just don’t think it’s going to be remembered as anything but a sleeper hit of the fall of 2011.” – Ray Barnholt, 1UP

“It’s not going to change the world, but it does serve as a timely reminder of that other thing id Software games always did besides smashing through some new technological barrier. They made shooting things fun, and it’s nice to have that back. ” – Tom Bramwell, Eurogamer

“Rage isn’t revolutionary, but is an expertly crafted, beautiful shooter.” – Charles Onyett, IGN

“Rage is a beautiful game that looks equally stunning with or without the hefty installation.” – Chris Watters, Gamespot
